If you have a blog, you should show posts that are related to the post you’re currently working on. If you have a WordPress blog, WordPress can help you to do this if you use the related posts plugin.

If you don’t have a blog, you should make sure to do this manually. Linking to other pages in your site that are related to the content you’re working on can go a long way toward getting links from other sites. If they like the page they’re reading, they will also like another of your pages that is related to it. Giving the readers options will result in a lot more links to your site.

They will click over to the next post or page, where they will find another article, and another list of related posts. The loop can be endless and can result in a visitor reading a few hundred pages of your site. If this happens with a technical reader that happens to have a site, you may have won yourself a link.

Linking to related posts also has a lot of search engine benefits.

Guest blogging has a very significant amount of benefits. Usually when you guest blog, you are able to instantly take credit by linking back to your site. There you go, you already have a link!

If you think outside the box, you can get a lot more links for your time. Make sure to write something really good when you guest blog. If you don’t make an impression on the readers of the new site, a lot of your time will be wasted.

The first step in effective guest blogging is choosing a good site to guest blog on. Blogging on a site that doesn’t have any traffic won’t do you any good at all. Finding a high traffic site to blog on will give you a lot more bang for your buck.

Once you have identified a high traffic site that allows for guest bloggers, you will want to create something that is very high quality. This will allow you to ’steal’ some of the readers of the blog your posting on. In reality, it won’t hurt the blog at all, this type of stealing actually helps both sides. :)

Guest blogging will help your branding and can certainly be leveraged to help get a lot more links to your site.

Link Out To Blogs

admin | Link Buiding Tips | Monday, July 9th, 2007

Linking out to blogs can be a powerful method to gain exposure if:

  • The blog allows pingbacks/trackbacks
  • The blogger links often to content that’s relevant to his material
  • The blogger reads other blogs

Some bloggers barely read other blogs, and if that’s the case you will probably want to find a different blogger to link out to. Other bloggers read other blogs like crazy, and if that’s the case you should link to them often. That type of blogger will very likely click over to your site to find out what was written about them.

The first step in getting a blogger to link to your site is getting them to your site in the first place. Linking to them can be a quick and easy way of doing it.

Most bloggers are quite addicted to checking their stats, so if even one person clicks over to their site they will probably know it. If they use WordPress they will find out that you have linked to them the next time they login.

Respond To The Comments On Your Blog

A powerful method for developing a reputation as someone that cares is to respond to comments that are left on your blog. Many times your readers will have questions, and answering those questions will have a lot of positive benefits. One benefit that results is that they will want to link to your more often.

When a reader knows that you actually care about them, they will reward your efforts. On the other hand, if you really don’t care about them at all they will absolutely be able to tell. If you don’t care about them, they probably won’t care about you. If this is the case, you better have some rock star information or you can forget about getting a lot of links.

Responding to you reader’s comments also has another benefit.  A high comment count makes your site a lot stickier, so a higher percentage of the visitors to your site will turn into readers. Readers are a lot more likely to link than visitors.

Leave Intelligent Comments On Blogs

admin | Link Buiding Tips | Sunday, July 1st, 2007

From the first day you start your site, you are branding whether you like it or not. You are establishing a reputation. A powerful method for creating a successful brand is leaving intelligent comments on blogs.

When you comment on a blog, you are usually able to leave your site’s URL along with the comment. On many blogs, this in itself won’t give you a link, because most blogging platforms add ‘nofollows’ to the links that are created. You can still get a lot of benefit from the comment, however, because the blogger will almost always visit your site.

If you have any material on your site that corresponds to what the blogger has to say, leave a link. It will have a ‘nofollow’ on it, but will bring the content on your site to the attention of the blogger. He/she will often link to the material if it adds to the value of his/her post.

Leaving comments on other blogs is also quite important from a promotional standpoint. Bringing new visitors to your site will almost always lead to additional links, especially if the readers in your niche are likely to have a technical background.
